Visa entry into U.S. with a criminal record.
My brother is getting married in L.A. later this year and I've been refused entry under the visa waiver program they do with Britain, I've now got to go for an appointment at the American embassy later this week. Anybody else had to go through all this shit to get out there and if so what was the appointment like.
Cheers people.

Think any drug conviction is a no no.

Guessing it depends on what you did and how long ago.

Bloke I worked with had to have an interview because of a drink drive - he got in but I have no idea how long ago it was.

I've just got all the forms back from the police and on my record is a caution for Abh in 1995
Wounding with intent and Abh in 1996 which I ended up in a young offenders for 15 months.
Then a drink drive in 2003.
I don't think they're gonna let me in but I've got to try as its my brothers wedding.
Fucking pain in the arse the lot of it.

My mate wanted to go to Colorado, where weed is legal, yet wasn't allowed a visa due to a conviction for possessing weed. Merica!

Drugs or violence and you can fuggedaboutit.

Or smuggle yourself in via Mexico. Not too far to LA from Tijuana.

Over 10 years ago should be ok

Did you serve 15 months or was you sentenced to 15 months?
On some Aussie border show it depends how long you was sentenced for - in this case 3 years ,not how long you served for.

Eg 4 year sentence serve 2 . Not allowed in

3 year sentence - serve 3 1/2 allowed in.

Anyway , best suit, watch your Ps & Qs show remorse , never been in trouble since , good job etc , in and out for the wedding .

Have heard these people have zero sence of humour - your best plan is to pretend you are on trial again and act accordingly .

I've never been to America btw so may be useless information.

If all you've done is sell American made weapons and ammunition to ISIS/The Taliban, it will be a rubber stamp/shoo-in.

If you've farted in a lift of American origin when others are present it will be a steel toe-capped, size 9 shoeing.

Your convictions as a juvenile shouldn't count as they're spent.

The drink driving one shouldn't be a problem either.

Ask your brother to move his wedding to Guantanamo Bay, problem solved.

How do you get your police record?

Re: Visa entry into U.S. with a criminal record.
I've been told it works out 2 years denied per year you spent inside, so I you went down for 5 years 8 years ago then you won't get in. Repeat offenses obviously weaken your chances further.

I would guess given the time elapsed you be fine Don. I've got similar from the 90s myself and was quite worried about it, but speaking to a bloke in the local who's a tour manager for bands and goes through this sort of shit regularly has greatly eased my concerns.
